Living Earth Lab リビング・アース・ラボ

Living Earth Lab is a one-week hands-on program for learning with nature, cultivating confidence and resilience to live through times of rapid change. Set in the Satoyama landscapes of Okayama, participants will explore practical skills such as natural building, food self-sufficiency, energy systems, and forest stewardship, while also learning the “design mindset” that helps us discover new possibilities within challenges. The journey begins with “Foundations,” continues through the elements of soil, wood, people, water, and fire, and concludes with “Visioning.” More than skills alone, you will experience how these elements connect to support a creative and resilient way of living. Together, Phil and Kyle bring over 40 years of combined permaculture experience and more than 15 years of close collaboration on numerous design sites and projects, both of which shape this space of learning built on trust and practice. This program is open not only to people in Japan but also to international participants and English speakers. With bilingual instructors and interpreter support, and with most of the program centered on “learning by doing,” deep learning is possible even without fluency in Japanese. While most participants will be Japanese, this creates a unique space for cross-cultural exchange and broader perspectives, growing Living Earth Lab as a program rooted in Japan yet connected to the world.

リビング・アース・ラボは､ 変化の激しい時代を生きるために､ 自信としなやかな力を育 みながら､ 自然とともに学ぶ一週間の実践プログラムです｡ 岡山の里山を舞台に､ 自然建 築､ 食の自給､ エネルギーシステム､ 森林管理などの具体的な技術を体験しながら､ 同時 に ｢デザインの考え方｣ を学びます｡ それは､ 課題の中に新しい可能性を見つける視点で す｡ 最初の ｢基盤 Foundations｣ から始まり､ 土・木・人・水・火の要素を経て､ 最後 に ｢ビジョニング Visioning｣ でまとめます｡ スキルだけでなく､ それぞれの要素がつな がり合い､ 創造的でしなやかな暮らしを支えていることを実感できるでしょう｡ フィルと カイルは､ 合わせて40年以上のパーマカルチャー経験を持ち､ 15年以上のあいだ､ 数多 くの現場デザインや開発に共同して取り組み､ ともに実践と経験を積み上げてきました｡ その経験と信頼から生まれる学びの場がここにあります｡ さらに､ このプログラムは日本 国内の参加者だけでなく､ 海外からの参加者や英語話者にも開かれています｡ 講師はバイ リンガルで通訳も入り､ 学びの大部分は ｢手を動かし､ 体験を通して学ぶ｣ 実践型なので､ 言葉に自信がなくても深い学びが可能です｡ 日本人参加者が中心となりますが､ それが国 際的な交流と視野の広がりを生み出し､ 地域に根ざしながら世界とつながる場として成長 を続けています｡
